Powering Technology For Batteries
who is JLM?
We are the premier Technology Matchmaker with a proven track record of introducing innovative new technologies from around the world into Fortune 500 companies.
WHO IS JOHN LYONS?
Over two and half decades, Lyons has been part of almost every advance in modern batteries. He has been searching for significant advances in solid-state chemistry, a field known for creating commercial materials. The climate is warming and generally becoming more turbulent. In short, the world needs a “Super-Battery’’ and explores every possibility. Global electrification is currently at an all-time high , with electricity demand skyrocketing due to the increasing adoption of electric vehicles, energy storage, heat pumps, electric boilers, and other electric technologies across various sectors, marking a significant shift towards a more electrified energy system worldwide.
In the early days, Lyons started J Lyons Marketing as a manufacturer rep firm with one major principal, Hitachi Maxell, and created the market for new battery chemistry. JLM’s first primary design won Motorola on their first digital cable set-top box, changing from an analogue format, requiring only a lithium coin cell. A new chemistry lithium thionyl chloride battery cylinder 1/2 AA with 10X large capacity and high-temperature heat resistance (160 C). This was a ten-year run global orders that produce 30 million batteries per year with annual sales reaching roughly $50 million a year. This design approval win was the launch of JLM as one of North America's leading marketing agencies. J Lyons Marketing transitioned from a commission-only rep firm to a marketing agency business development to license, creating/developing new battery technology to be evaluated and approved.
The transition with startups even well funded (over $100M) has been a turbine ride with over 55 firms getting close but not significant revenue. The past decade's movement with the electrification era has intensified the best opportunity with a tremendous upside.

Electrification
Climate needs mass electrification. The world must become electric and be powered by carbon-free energy. Now, new battery chemistry can develop a dominant position in at least one vertical market in just one transportation market globally, and sales would exceed $100M ( Lithium-sulphur US-made NexTech Batteries are being evaluated and show real promise).
Renewable energy to add Energy Storage with the latest new battery chemistries or alternative energy sources to compete against lithium-ion in cost & performance at GW scale ( utility off-grid). Energy Storage is the key to electrification of the grid. ( CERENERGY® is a game-changing Solid State Sodium Chloride battery for Grid Storage that production can scale today )
US-made synthetic anode battery material (graphite/graphene) versus mined in China. CTI- Curvite has a solution - sugar to hard carbon is more “ adjusting “ oxygen levels to meet specifications. A modified sugar bio-based hard carbon anode battery material can be produced domestically. High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), or glucose-fructose, can be made with existing plants with little modification cost. Capital cost is very modest compared to synthetic graphite material plants, which run over $100 million. The battery market is non-lithium-ion chemistry, more so in the energy storage sector, which requires higher volumes than transportation and safer chemistry. This would be a license arrangement with Cargill once the battery manufacturers approve and source the quantities for the next five years.
Altech Batteries has “cracked the silicon barrier” and successfully produced and tested a series of lithium-ion battery anode materials with ~30% higher retention capacity than conventional lithium-ion battery anode materials. CTI - Curvite hard carbon with Altech coating looks to double the range from 250 to 500 miles, and fast charge in minutes is a better bet than solid state due to economics. Fraunhofer Institute in Germany's state-of-the-art battery lab is doing a series of evaluations and modifications to meet Altech performance requirements.
Green Steam, 20% of global carbon emissions are caused by industrial heat. That’s as much as all of transportation combined. Energy efficiency is crucial in reducing these emissions by incorporating strategies and technologies to lower energy consumption and greenhouse emissions. Green Steam helps industrial facilities reduce emissions significantly and turn clean energy into a competitive advantage—profits in decarbonising industrial process heat. Green Steam systems have a lower cost advantage when an MW thermal battery is added as an E- boiler design with natural gas/electricity set up. Pilots are being explored in at least 20 + vertical manufacturer processes. Graphite -Energy from Australia has over $50M backlog 12- 18 months out. The sweet spot is 10MW or less at a temperature range of 500F or less in the food & beverage sector. This is just a tiny segment of the industrial heat market, as most requirements are for over 25-50 MW batteries and higher temperatures.
Tire recycling material needs asset value through a low-cost process to “refine” material other than crumb rubber. Recycling tyres to crumb rubber does not solve the environmental problem of rubber dissolving from the planet. The goal is to develop a hard carbon anode material for batteries. (Now, in year seven, about three years away ) GDTC from Australia is now at a 70% purity level, and the microwave process can achieve 98 per cent at the pilot scale. ( not at production scale ).
Tire material to be biomaterial so tires can be recycled, getting very close but years away from highway safety approval. Off-road tires are a much easier path. Graphene in tyres with five of the top ten brands do evaluate ( Carbon Rivers US made ), GEO40 bio colloidal silica from geothermal fluid and CTi -Curvite Graphite / Graphene needs more modifications on hold as exclusively engage with the battery sector.
Glass / Solar Panel coating to be self-cleaning repels salts and dirt environment for a long duration, upwards of ten years. Nanovations from Australia are being evaluated with OEMs.
Green Hydrogen develops a conversion on the manufacturer process site from a waste stream to a valued asset ( a fuel). One must eliminate logistics/transportation costs — a front runner with food waste, especially fruit pomace. For example, Apple pomace is a solid waste product left over after processing apples for juice, and it's made up of the apple's peel, core, seeds, stems, and soft tissue.
WHAT WE DO
As a technology marketing firm, we will develop the first steps of interest for one's product – typically a beta test and technology validation. We work with OEMs' new technology roadmaps two to five years out. For more than 25 years, we have represented global companies. Our successful track record of initiating meetings and driving the product process through to multi-million dollar deals is undeniable. See what our clients have to say about us here.
JLM has created over 200 beta sites and designed over $1 billion of new technology.
Marketing Consultants (Marketing is not Sales) With a Niche for New Technology
A marketing consultant works with companies to create and implement marketing strategies. These strategies are centred on the core of the business and its services and products. A consultant helps create a detailed marketing plan, determine the marketing message, and identify the appropriate marketing mix to communicate it. The consultant then follows the plan and works to execute and implement the marketing strategy.
They will monitor results, tweak as necessary and ensure that the companies get the best results from their marketing efforts.
A marketing consultant will be skilled and knowledgeable in consumer behaviour and marketing. This includes identifying the company's target market and positioning its product or service offering to interest consumers and make them want to buy.
A great marketing consultant will be able to think creatively and analytically. They must be able not only to be creative but also to gain results from that creativity. Marketing consultants often specialise in specific areas of marketing, as JLM verticals mainly include energy, batteries, clean tech, green tech, special chemicals/coatings, and animal healthcare.
